The objective was to establish Senator Obama as a transformational figure that could reshape politics. As part of on of the first efforts to Increase African American and youth turnout to elect the first African American President of the United States.
Our goals were to register minority and youth voters at unprecedented levels. We also needed to convince white voters that Senator Obama was a viable option to lead America. Doing this while having the challenge of in 2008, launch an upstart campaign against the most powerful
name in the Democratic Party – Hillary Clinton (and Bill Clinton).
In 2012, we worked to maintain similar minority voter turnout levels of the 2008 election against the historical trend of minority voter drop-off. Elected the first African American
President by increasing African American turnout. The increase included about 2 million more African American voters, and 2 million more Hispanic voters, while the number of non-Hispanic white voters remained statistically unchanged.
African Americans had the highest turnout rate among 18- to 24-year-old voters — 55 percent, an 8 percent increase from 2004. African American voters turned out at higher rate than white voters in 2012, the first time in political history.
We increased voter registration of African Americans in battleground states Florida, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Ohio.
We increased African American voter turnout 4% in the pivotal State of Ohio.
Over performed turnout projections in Virginia and Florida.
President Barack Obama was reelected to a second term largely because of the minority voter turnout.
